Ten weeks in and we're keeping it fresh. I dug an old box of art supplies out of my closet. It was a walk down memory lane. This was 1997 Max's kit. It contained markers from my comic book art days when I was coloring in Gambit and Batman at the kitchen table. I also found conté-like
Art Stix from my cariacature days. There was still a price sticker on one of my markers reading 9/96. And it still worked! Props to
Prismacolor. Those folks make a fine product. So last night was dedicated to burgeoning-artist Max from half my life ago. So full of promise and acne.
I wouldn't say I had any specific approach to the media. I embraced the hatching quality of the markers, as there was no way I was going to get slick flat color on porous drawing paper like that– I would need marker paper if that was what I was looking for. So I did what I could and I'm happy with how it came out. The Art Stix stuff, man. I don't know. I just tried to work with some silly colors to see if I could jog some ideas. It came out as expected. Kind of weird; sort of okay. They were really fun to play with either way. I love the way they feel. Super smooth and easy to control. They proved popular with the other artists too.
